| Color Guard Audition
Information
Eligibility:
- The Lion Band Color guard will
enjoy years of twirling excellence with the Lion
Marching Band. Those young ladies selected for the
color guard must be full-time students at FMU. The
Lion Band Color guard is comprised of students who
are on campus or are entering freshmen or transfer
students. Students in college (including transfer
students) must have a 2.0 grade point average in
order to audition for the line. Workshop and
Preseason Band Camp attendance is required of all
applicants who are selected. The dates for these
events will be announced in the official
notification letter or by email.
Equipment:
- Each applicant will be given a
practice flag and flagpole. Each applicant is to
bring their own compact disc of music (applicant's
on choosing) which will be used for the applicant's
own routine (Original Routine). CD's must be "audio
formatted" (not mp3) to play on any CD player. All
recording equipment will be provided by the Band
Department for the auditions. Flag work should make
up the bulk of the Original Routine.
Requirements:
- Part I: Applicant Routine
(Original Routine). This routine should showcase
your individual talents. The choreography should
portray a solo routine, and not a group field
routine. It will have a time limit of one minute and
thirty seconds (1:30). Timing will begin with the
first note of music. Applicants audition in
numerical order. The line averages 14-18 members.
- Part II: On-The-Spot Routine. A
short routine choreographed by the Instructor will
be taught to everyone. Applicants will be given one
hour to learn it. It will then be performed in small
groups. Following this portion of the audition,
scores from the On-The-Spot Routine will be
tabulated and the members of 2008-2009 Lion Band
Color guard will be selected. The results will be
posted near the audition site approximately one hour
after the close of the auditions.
What to wear:
- Black tights and a plain White
T-shirt, flat heel jazz shoes, jazz boots, or split
sole tennis shoes. Your make-up and hair style
should be worn in a fashion which accents and
flatters facial characteristics (e.g. "Pageant”
style). The adjudicators will try to imagine you
wearing a fancy costume, so please try to avoid
wearing your hair and make-up in a "school casual"
or "work-out" style.
Color Guard Workshops:
- Optional, free workshops will be
offered in the Spring Semester. Stay tuned for
workshop times and dates.
Number to be selected:
- To be determined, will vary
between 14-18 young ladies.
